Lovering, Frank W.

Isaac W. Ambler was born in England on January 7, 1822. While serving in the British Army in Canada, he deserted and crossed the border and a short time later was naturalized. He served with the 6th Maine Infantry during the Civil War , but was never on their rolls. There were two book written about Ambler. The first was Truth is Stranger than Fiction: Biography of Isaac W. Ambler , by William P. Freeman, (Biddeford, Maine: Horton brothers, 1860). The second, apparently revised by Ambler to include his Civil War experience, was Truth is Stranger than Fiction: The Life of Sergeant I. W. Ambler (Boston, Lee and Shepard; New York, Lee, Shepard & Dillingham, 1873). Ambler died on January 25, 1892, and was buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford, Massachusetts.
