Higginbotham, Charles T. (Charles Thomas), 1840-

Charles Higginbotham was born in Peoria, Illinois, on October 24, 1840. He worked for about a year as a pony express rider on a route from Independence Rock on the Sweetwater River to Pacific Springs. He then became a Wells Fargo stage driver from Fort Hallack to Bennett's Ferry. He arrived in Virginia City in 1864 and went to work for Pollinger's stage line. He briefly had a stable in Butte until it was destroyed by fire. He worked in Butte as a teamster off and on during the early 1890s. During the late 1890s he toured Europe for seven years as a stagecoach driver with Buffalo Bill's show. He eventually moved to Dillon, Montana, where he died February 22, 1927.
