Concord (Mass.). War Records Committee
In 1942 the desirability of gathering information about Concord people in military service and about civilian activities in connection with the War became apparent to the Town Moderator, Mr. Marvin C. Taylor. He organized an informal committee. At the Town Meeting in March 1943, an official committee was formed entitled: Concord War Records Committee. Marvin C. Taylor was selected as Chairman. Mr. Taylor moved to Washington to take up war work with one of the government depts. and the Committee then elected Elliot R. Howard as Chairman, keeping Mr. Taylor as a member of the Committee.
(Cont.) The Committee's first assignment was to send out a questionnaire to each household including someone in the service. If there was no response, the Committee would contact households personally. The information gathered was recorded on permanent cards. In 1947 the committee was disbanded, and the records were given to the newly-created committee entitled: Concord War History Committee.
