Leonard, E. C. (Emery Clarence), 1892-1968
Emery Clarence Leonard (1892-1968) was born on June 9, 1892, in Champaign, Illinois. He received his bachelor's degree in 1915 from Wittenberg College and his master's from Ohio State College in 1916. He joined the Division of Plants at the United States National Museum in 1918, and was in the military service from 1918-1919. He collected local flora from 1918-1924, and then began to collect in Haiti during the 1920s. He collected with Ellsworth P. Killip, William Louis Abbott, and Genevieve Mannakee Leonard. His specialized in research of the family of Acanthaceae. He published on nearly 500 new species in that family. Leonard died in 1968.
