Enlisted July 11, 1917 into Signal Enlisted Reserve Corps; trained with Royal Flying Corps, Toronto, Canada July 29, 1917; commissioned 2nd Lieutenant Nov. 3, 1917; active duty Dec. 12, 1918; 1st Lieutenant Aug, 26, 1918 with Air Service (Aeronautics) U.S. Army; honorably discharged from emergency commission to accept appointment in the regular Army Air Service Sept. 10, 1920; became 1st Lieutenant in the Ordnance Dept. Jan. 22, 1922; Subsequent promotions thru Colonel; military attache ́to London; retired Nov. 27, 1953. Small arms expert.
