Born in Hobart, New York April 13, 1860, son of James and Margaret H. Peck, brother to Helen P. Sanborn and Janet M. (Janet Moore) Peck (b. 1878). His mother Margaret befriended Phoebe Apperson Hearst (1842-1919) on a steamship voyage from Panama to San Francisco, and Orrin became a close friend of Phoebe's son, William Randolph Hearst (1863-1951). Peck studied art at the Akademie der Kunst in Munich from 1883 to 1889; in 1889 he moved to London with his sister Janet. He became an accomplished portrait and landscape painter, and was commissioned to paint portraits of Phoebe and William Randolph Hearst. In 1920, he was hired to design the landscaping for Hearst's San Simeon home in Calif. Peck was also a member of the Bohemian Club. He died in Los Angeles in 1921.
