The committee was charged with preventing the spread of infectious disease. Minutes contain information on quarantine of ships and people coming into the city, visits to the sick to determine if they had been struck with the fever, progress of the disease in other port cities and the West Indies, doctors' reports, hospitalization of the sick, deaths, and informing the public about the disease and quarantine.
