In 1893 French writer Anatole France first published his sketches of life in 18th century France, La Rot\u0302isserie de la reine pe\u0301dauque, and it quickly became a popular text for illustrators. In 1935 Editions du Nord of Brussels published an illustrated edition as number 21 in the series Les glories litter\u0301aires.
