Series I (3.5 linear ft.) contains correspondence with bacteriologists, chemists and biochemists, medical doctors, students, publishers, family, and friends. The bulk of this series dates from the period 1920-1963. A few letters are in German or French. Other correspondents include: Rudolph J. Anderson, Stanley R. Benedict, Detlev W. Bronk, Vannevar Bush, R. Keith Cannan, Walter B. Cannon, Alan Chesney, Francis P. Chinard, Robert W. Cowgill, Vincent du Vigneaud, Joseph S. Fruton, Henry Harbury, A. Baird Hastings, Frank B. Jewett, Victor K. La Mer, Herbert A. Lubs, J. Murray Luck, Leonor Michaelis, Edwards A. Park, A. Newton Richards, F. Lee Rodkey, Donald D. Van Slyke, Hubert B. Vickery, Otto Warburg, Lewis H. Weed, C. -E. A. Winslow, and Alan C. Woods. Series II (1.0 linear ft.) contains bibliographies and curricula vitae for a number of biochemists, many of whom were Clark's students; photocopies of clippings; letters from colleagues and friends regarding works published by Clark; announcements for programs and lectures; invitations and event programs; playbills; class exams and attendance lists; and copies of Clark's bibliography covering publications through the 1950's. Also filed here is biographical material regarding Clark, and a limited amount of information about Clark family history and genealogy. Series III (1.25 linear ft.) contains research notes; notebooks; and calculations made by Clark in the course of laboratory work, and during the writing of manuscripts intended for publication. Series IV (1.25 Linear ft.) contains manuscripts, lectures, reviews of work published by others, and notes, both for lectures as well as for the revision of his Oxidation-Reduction Potentials of Organic Systems. Included are drafts of memorial articles for Barnett Cohen and Leonor Michaelis, his Cutter Lectures delivered in 1930 at Harvard University, and manuscripts regarding the history of the government's antimalarial research during World War II. Series V (0.25 linear ft.) contains manuscripts which are chiefly conference reports and papers describing research. There are papers by Johnas S. Friedenwald and Gertrude Maengwyn-Davies on enzymatic activity; and papers by Karl Sollner, R. E. Tarbett, and Joseph and Dorothy Moyle Needham. Other material was generated as a result of the U.S. Government's World War II antimalarial drug program. Series VI (0.25 linear ft.) includes black and white photoprints and photonegatives. Most of the photoprints show Clark's laboratory and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and include both laboratory staff and equipment. The photonegatives include images of Clark's lecture or class notes written on blackboards.

For his pioneering research on the link between viruses and cancer, the pathologist Francis Peyton Rous was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1966. Working primarily at the Rockefeller Institute after 1909, Rous first came to notice for his theoretical construction of the first blood bank for use in France during World War I, a plan ultimately implemented by his assistant, Oswald H. Robertson. Subsequently, he left an important imprint on the development of experimental medicine, partly through his own research on the origins of cancer and his administrative activities at the Rockefeller, but also as editor of the from 1921-1970. The Rous Papers include correspondence, lectures, articles, reports, laboratory records, reprints, and photographs that document all aspects of the life and work of Peyton Rous. Reflecting his work at the Institute are letters of colleagues, information on assistants, and reports to the directors (1909-1959). Additional material relates to Rous' diverse organizational interests, including the American Cancer Society, Century Association, Jane Coffin Childs Memorial Fund for Medical Research (at Yale University), Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology, Johns Hopkins University, National Academy of Sciences, National Research Council, New York Academy of Medicine, Royal Society of Medicine Foundation, and Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research.
The geneticist Milislav Demerec emigrated from Yugloslavia in 1919, spending nearly his entire career in the Department of Genetics at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Working initially on the genetics of maize and later on , his research interests included radiation and chemical mutagenesis, and during the Second World War, penicillin and the genetics of antibiotic resistance. Demerec served as head of the laboratory at Cold Spring Harbor from 1941 until 1960. The Demerec collection contains the extant professional papers of Milislav Demerec, dating primarily from the time of his arrival at Cold Spring Harbor until his retirement. In addition to his correspondence with colleagues, the collection includes interesting material on the administration of Cold Spring Harbor laboratory during the 1940s and 1950s, data and research notes, material relating to professional organizations (e.g. Genetics Society of America, American Society of Naturalists), a lengthy series of lectures given by Demerec, and a large number of photographs pertaining to Demerec's research, but also to his colleagues and Cold Spring Harbor itself. There is also a Register of visitors to the laboratory (1927-1945) and a Milislav Demerec reprint list. Drosophila virilis

The files also include personal and professional letters which reflect his involvement in organizations and projects including his work with the National Research Council, particularly in aviation medicine and in editing a medical history of World War II. Fulton's writings concern physiological and medical discoveries and those who made them. His close association with Harvey Cushing resulted in voluminous files on major writing and editing projects. Correspondence with family and colleagues reflects his travels, hospitality, and his collecting interests. Fulton's teaching and research are only sparsely represented in the papers.

Additional materials include course lectures given at the University of Nevada; speeches on ALSOS and other subjects; reports on the work and attitudes of German scientists during the Nazi regime; research data from Brookhaven National Laobratory, Northwestern University, and the University of Michigan; Goudsmit's notebooks from lectures given by Paul Ehrenfest (University of Leiden, 1920s and undated) and by others; and undated research notebooks. Other areas of interest covered include Egyptology, criminology, World War II refugees, parapsychology, UFOs, and philately. Correspondents include: Robert F. Bacher, Gregory Breit, Leon Brillouin, Detlev W. Bronk, Walter and Martha Colby, Dirk Coster, Gerard Heinrich Dieke, Paul Ehrenfest, Enrico Fermi, George Gamow, Werner Heisenberg, Jaap Kistemaaker, John R. Kohn, Alfred Landé, Jonathan Logan, Wendell Mordy, Linus Carl Pauling, Harrison Randall, Paul Rosbaud, George Uhlenbeck, John H.
Atoms for Peace, Inc. was formed by the Ford Motor Company as a memorial to Henry and Edsel Ford to present awards to those who made contributions to the peaceful uses of atomic energy. In August 1955, James R. Killian, president of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, accepted the invitation of Henry Ford II to serve as chairman of the Organization and Planning Committee for the Atoms for Peace awards. The directors of the Ford Motor Company authorized an appropiation of one million dollars at a rate of $100,000 annually for ten years. Ten awards were given, the first in 1957, and the last in 1969. The collection consists of the records of executive secretary Bryce Leggett, and includes minutes of meetings and biographies of nominees.

The papers contain correspondence, memoranda, writings, photographs, and memorabilia, which document the career of John Farquhar Fulton as a neurophysiologist, medical historian, and bibliophile.

William Jacob Robbins (1890-1978, APS 1941) was a botanist and physiologist. From 1937 to 1957 he was director of the New York Botanical Garden. His research focused on culture methods of plants in relation to biochemistry and nutrition, especially on the synthetic abilities of fungi. His studies paralleled the scientific agenda of the Rockefeller Foundation, an agency with which he was closely associated for years as adviser and trustee. He was perhaps the most influential botanist in the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) during the early postwar era, and a principal participant in the plans for the global reconstruction of science. Robbins served as president of the American Philosophical Society from 1956 to 1959.

A bacteriologist from MIT, Salvador E. Luria's work with Max Delbruck on bacteriophage demonstrated that bacterial resistance to certain phages arose through genetic mutations. His later work showed that phages also mutate genetically. He received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1969 with Max Delbruck and Alfred D. Hershey. The collection is organized into seven series: I. Correspondence, 1938-1992 ; IIa. Subject Files, 1938-1990 ; IIb. Personal Material. 1923-1991 ; III. Works by Luria, 1938-1987 ; IV. Works by Others, 1944-1990 ; V. Research Notes and Notebooks, 1941-1979 ; VI. Course Material, 1931-1991 ; VII. Photographs and Negatives, 1957-1982. Arrangement: Alphabetical by folder title and then chronological within each folder.

An administrator and humanist, Henry Allen Moe (1894-1975) was the first director of the National Endowment for the Humanities, and was a president of the American Philosophical Society from 1959 to 1970. The Moe Papers are a vast and rich resource documenting all phases of Moe's career, but are also a major source of information on twentieth-century philanthropic organizations. As the first Secretary, then Administrator, and finally President of the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation (ca. 1925-1963), Moe made contact with the influential and the aspiring in the worlds of banking, finance, the arts, and sciences. This collection is particularly strong in correspondence and information relating to Latin America, much of it generated through Moe's oversight of the Guggenheim's Latin America Fund and by Moe's otherwise keen interest in the region. This material is diverse, ranging from material on agriculture (see Escuela Agricola Panamericana, 15 boxes) and Peruvian archaeology (see Alfred Kroeber's detailed report) to many folders of correspondence and grant reports from artists, writers, and politicians of South and Central America. Moe served as trustee, officer, and committee member of over thirty private foundations, many of which are well represented in the collection by yearly reports and grant applications, among other types of records.
