While some of the correspondence is of a confidential or secret nature, a number of the letters were from or to persons holding high goverment office including Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Gen. John J. Pershing, and William H. Taft. There is little personal or family correspondence in the collection. Includes a wealth of information on the Philippines and the Spanish-American War in Spanish diplomatic documents/correspondence and combat dispatches/reports of military engagements; through pamphlets, summaries, and correspondence the Aguinaldo-Otis peace negotations are represented; and the role of the Catholic Church in Philippine life is covered in reports of abuses, investigations and synopses of cases of religious controversies calling for action, and correspondence referring to the position of the church toward the insurrection and the establishment of an independent Filipino church.
