O'Donnell, whose specialty was the literary history and folklore of New York State. Much of the printed matter consists of O'Donnell's own writings. Correspondence and research materials chiefly concern Harold Frederic and other New York State writers researched by O'Donnell. Materials on Harold Frederic include photocopies of his letters, and correspondence between O'Donnell and Frederic's descendants. There is also a large section of research materials on writer and critic Edmund Wilson. Also includes tapes O'Donnell made of his own lectures and others, tapes of songs from New York State, and three oversize maps designed by O'Donnell documenting New York State literary history.
