Charles Lesley Ames began collecting materials in all bibliographic formats on the British-Indian interaction after a trip to England in 1908. The manuscript portion of his library reflects his interest in official relations between the two cultures and is particularly rich in holdings of the writings of Governors-General and Viceroys, as well an numerous government agencies and the East India Company.
