The Master Planning Council was established in 1989 to advise the President on long-range physical planning for the University of Virginia. It recommends and maintains a master plan for the use of existing buildings and facilities and for the future development of the buildings and grounds of the University. The Council originally reported to the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. After that position was abolished it reported directly to the President.
After 1972, scattered copies of individual reports may be found in the office administrative files of the President's Office and the office of the Vice-President and Provost or in the records of the individual school or department.
Following his years as president of the University of Virginia, 1985-1990, Mr. O'Neil founded the Thomas Jefferson Center for the Protection of Free Expression in Charlottesville, Va.
