Thomas Hinman Moorer (b. 1912) was a naval officer and Chief of Naval Operations from August 1, 1967 to July 1, 1970.
Thomas Hinman Moorer, U.S. Naval officer, was born on February 9, 1912 in Mount Willig, Alabama. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1933 and served in the Navy until his retirement in 1974. During his career Moorer received the Purple Heart Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross for actions in the Pacific during World War II. He was the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1970-1974, when he retired.
