The papers of New York painter and art critic William Anderson Coffin date from 1886 to 1924 and measure 1.6 linear feet. Found within the papers are scattered biographical materials and correspondence; project files for the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, the American Artist's Committee of One Hundred, and the exhibition of works by American Artists at the Luxembourg Museum in Paris; three additional scrapbooks; printed material; and photographs.Scattered biographical material includes membership cards and an autobiographical essay. Correspondence is with colleagues and related generally to receptions and events, including an invitation to the launch of the U. S. Battleship <emph render="italic">Arizona</emph>. There are one or two letters each from Frank W. Benson, Edwin Howland Blashfield, Royal Cortissoz, Walter Gay, and Whitney Warren.Three series of project files document Coffin's work for the Fine Arts Division of the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, the American Artists' Committee of One Hundred that established a relief fund for families of French soldier-artists, and an exhibition of artwork by American Artists at the Luxembourg Museum in Paris. Files contain a variety of materials, such as letters, drafts of reports, meeting minutes, photographs, catalogs and brochures, and other materials. There are two oversized scrapbooks for the Buffalo Pan-American Exposition. The files for the Luxembourg Museum exhibition include a letter signed by Louis Bouché, Bernard Gussow, Alfred H. Maurer, Joseph Stella, and William Zorach protesting the exclusion of their work. Three additional scrapbooks contain clippings of articles written by Coffin when he was employed as an art critic for <emph render="italic">The New York Evening Post</emph>, <emph render="italic">Harper's Weekly</emph>, and <emph render="italic">The New York Sun</emph>. Printed material consists of miscellaneous clippings primarily about Coffin, programs from American Rights Committee exercises, a Dixie Club of New York concert, a Lotos Club concert, the Lafayette-Marne Anniversary exercises, and souvenir tickets to various art-related events including several Paris Salon Vernissage events sponsored by the Société des Artistes Francais.Photographs include an album of photographs of Coffin, various family members, and residences; a photograph of Coffin posing with an unidentified group of his colleagues; and photographs of family friends. Project files also contain photographs.

The Morgan Russell Archives and Collection documents the artistic output, personal life, intellectual pursuits, gender identity issues, and financial predicaments of artist Morgan Russell from his student years in New York and Paris, beginning in 1906, through his move from France to the United States in 1946. Russell was a relentless chronicler in both words and image, evidenced here by large collections of letters, notebooks, notes, and drawings. Of particular significance are more than three thousand drawings and sketches, ranging from hasty thumbnail sketches to highly finished works on paper made by Russell over several decades, as well as over seventy notebooks kept by the artist in which he recorded his activities and thoughts about himself, his art and the art of others, his finances and life philosophy. Includes correspondence, most of which is addressed to Russell, including significant correspondence with painters Mabel Alvarez, Stanton Macdonald-Wright, and Robert Henri, critic Leo Stein, and novelist and poet Blaise Cendrars; biographical material including address books, immigration and marriage papers, exhibitor's and membership cards; business and financial papers including bank records, bills and receipts; private writings including notebooks, notes and sketches made on loose scraps of papers, essays on aesthetic subjects, creative essays on personal subjects including gender identity, and material relating to his light box studies; writings intended for public use consist of drafts of essays, speeches, and unpublished book manuscripts; printed material including exhibition catalogs (some with Russell's annotations and sketches), press clippings about Russell and others, images from publications and postcards (not used as correspondence), travel-related materials including sightseeing information, maps, passenger lists, and menus; original scores, studies after classical masters, sheet music catalogs, and notes on the relationship between music and painting; photographs including images of Russell, his family, friends and associates, as well as his work in painting and sculpture; drawings and sketches; and finished and/or significant drawings that have been accessioned into the museum's art collection. Correspondents represented include Alexander Altenburg, Mabel Alvarez, Guillaume Apollinaire, Friedrich Joseph Berber, Denyse Binon, Georges Binon, Suzanne Binon, Louis Bouché, George Carlock, Blaise Cendrars, Barnett D. Conlon, John Dracopoli, K.N. Dracopoli, Aimee Evans, Anne Evans, Elie Faure, John F. Flanagan, Howard S. Gans, Yves Hacart, R. Chalfant Head, Robert Henri, Sidney M.

Three-fourths of the collection documents the gallery's handling of contemporary American paintings, drawings, and sculpture through correspondence with artists, private collectors, museums, galleries, and other art institutions, interspersed with scattered exhibition catalogs and other materials. Also included are John F. Kraushaar's estate records; artists' files; financial ledgers documenting sales and gallery transactions; consignment and loan records; photographs of artwork; sketchbooks and drawings by James Penney, Louis Bouché, and others; and two scrapbooks. There is a 6.0 linear foot unprocessed addition to this collection donated in 2022 that includes correspondence with artists, galleries, organizations and individuals regarding works of art, filed alphabetically by year. Materials date from circa 1959-1999, with the bulk from 1990-1999.
