Wittig lecture notes, ca. 1829-1832.12 volumes (8 boxes)Lecture notes taken at 12 courses at the University of Göttingen by a medical student who signs as C. Wittig Jr. Stud. med., circa 1829 to 1832. The note taker is believed to be Charles Frederick Wittig, a German-born physician of Philadelphia. The topics of the lectures include chemistry, botany, pharmaceutics, medicine, surgery, and obstetrics. The notes have been uniformly bound in a library binding, in 12 volumes numbered 1 to 12, evidently in alphabetical order by name of professor. Each volume has a title page stating the title of the course and identifying the professor by last name; all the volumes have original pagination, and running headings indicating the subject matter. The 12 volumes are as follows: vol. 1) Medizinische Botanik, by Friedrich Gottlieb Bartling, undated, 252 p. (Box 1); vol. 2) Die medizinische Chirurgie, by Karl Himly, undated, 334 p. (Box 2); vol. 3) Krankheiten der Augen und Ohren, by Karl Himly, summer semester 1832, 223 p. In vol. 8 the title page is found between p. 70 and 71 (p. 1-70 appears to be related to the same lecture). Vol. 9 has 4 unnumbered leaves in Latin bound in at back. Vol. 10, on chemistry, includes some drawings of laboratory equipment. Vols. 3-7 and 12 have an index at back. Vols. 3 and 12 are signed by Wittig on the title page.
