            <abstract>This series consists of a letter and two affidavits concerning rewards offered by the Governor for the apprehension of criminals.  Both items describe crimes committed in the state and urge the Governor to offer rewards for the apprehension of the criminals.  One concerns a brutal beating committed by George Hill in Lauderdale Co. against his slave Bartlett.  Also included is a letter and affidavit describing the rape of John Springler's wife by Charly Hall's slave Jim in Baldwin Co. </abstract>
