Series 1 of record group RG 87-78 consists of the Presque Isle County survey of 1917. Includes the maps, notes, and summary materials for a publication entitled Report on the lands of the Michigan Limestone and Chemical Company and of contiguous lands in Presque Isle County, Michigan, by Rolland C. Allen, state geologist. The region investigated and mapped extends from the vicinity of Calcite quarry southeast along the shore of Lake Huron to Blank Point, a distance of about 15 miles, and inland from two to three miles (considerable areas within the tract were not examined or topographically mapped). The purpose of the survey was to amass all possible information concerning the geology, topology, soils, and timber lands owned by the Company. Particular attention was paid to the geology of these lands with respect to the development of commercial limestone.
