Two volumes of Samuel Beach's field books, containing two copies of his survey of Pittsfield, Vermont taken in September, 1782. The volumes also include a few maps of Pittsfield, Vermont and surrounding towns and a brief journal of Samuel Beach's travels while he was surveying Pittsfield and Hancock, Vermont. In the middle of one of the volumes are toasts given to celebrate the Battle of Yorktown while Beach was at Durkee's camp in Pittsfield, Vermont. There is a transcript of the toasts included in collection. Also included in the collection is a certificate from Joseph Crary, county surveyor for the county of Rutland, Vermont, dated February 15, 1787, stating that there was a conflict with the boundaries of the townships of Chittendon and Philadelphia, Vermont with Pittsfield, Vermont. A typed letter from Guy Wilson to Rawson C. Myrick dated October 8, 1926 explains the history of these documents upon giving them to the Vermont State Library.
