The collection covers a variety of subjects related to events and issues in Los Angeles, including transportation, water, offshore oil drilling, education, the 1984 Olympic Games, the Los Angeles Convention Center, LA Produce and Flower Markets, and civil unrest (LA Riots). The collection contains records in a variety of formats, including correspondence, photographs, reports, publications, architectural drawings, cassette recordings, video tapes, and memorabilia.

Papers document Corman's twenty years as Democratic Representative of the 22nd Congressional District in the San Fernando Valley from 1961-1980. Personal papers also cover Corman's years as a member of the Los Angeles City Council from 1958-1959 and military service in the United States Marine Corps. For twenty years, from 1961-1981, James C. Corman represented the Twenty Second District in the San Fernando Valley in U.S. Congress. The first decade of Corman's political career was a period of turbulent social unrest and rapidly changing views of the role Congress should play in solving many of the nation's racial and minority problems. The 1970s were years of far-reaching economic and political change. Since his defeat in 1980, it has become increasingly evident that Corman's efforts in Congress contributed in a vital way to the growth of his district, the needs of his constituents and the lasting concerns of the nation.

Edward Ross Roybal (1916- ) was a public health educator for the California Tuberculosis Association (1942-44), the director of health education for the Los Angeles County Tuberculosis and Health Association (1945-49), a member of the Los Angeles City Council (1949-62), president of Eastland Savings and Loan Association (1958-68), and a Democrat in the U.S. Congress, House of Representatives (1963-93) where he served as chairman of the Select Committee on Aging from 1989-93. The collection consists of manuscripts, correspondence, notes, photographs, and printed material related to his career as a Los Angeles City Councilman.

Volume 27 consists of 278 (3 x 4 inch) lantern slides, comprising a variety of different images of Southern California and its residents. The first section consists of images of central Los Angeles, primarily street scenes, including a number of images of La Fiesta celebrations and World War I-era parades. Other landscapes and cityscapes in the collection include views of Hollywood and Santa Monica; locations in the San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys, with an emphasis on Monrovia; communities in Orange, San Bernardino and Kern Counties; scenes in Yosemite and other central California locations; and Tijuana. Also included are a number of images of Santa Barbara in the late nineteenth century. The collection is notable for a number of images of Los Angeles area high schools and universities, especially Los Angeles High School. Also included are photographs by members of, and about, the Los Angeles Camera Club; these include photographs by C.C. Pierce, W.M. Frisbie, F.H. Maude, C.C. Valentine, and O. Granicher. Studio portraits and group photographs can be found in the collection; among the identified images are a group portrait of the Los Angeles City Council in 1888; and portraits of Mrs. O.W. Childs, wife of the early Los Angeles pioneer; Isidore Dockweiler, an influential Southern California Democrat; Max Meyberg, organizer of the first La Fiesta celebration in 1894; and Caroline Severance, founder of the Friday Morning Club. The collection also contains images of Native Americans, and Chinese in Chinatown. In addition to the Los Angeles Camera Club photographers, the collection contains images created by Penney and Bennett, James B. Blanchard, and Carleton Watkins.

The collection contains 12 folders in 2 boxes. The largest folder has 223 pages while the smallest has only 21. The inclusive dates are 1928-1929. This collection includes correspondence, meetings minutes, press releases, photographs, and other documents about the St. Francis dam disaster. As the original arrangement of the papers has been kept, most folders contain documents related either to one of the government-established committees or to some non-governmental organizations. The papers document, in detail, how various governmental committees and non-governmental organizations worked together for the disaster's relief and compensation. It also deals with the conflicts between the Los Angeles city government and the Red Cross on some relief issues, the legal aspects of Los Angeles city government's relief efforts, and the investigation of the causes of the dam's failure. Among others, Charles C. Teague, mayor of the City of Santa Paula, participated in the decision making process of the disaster's relief and investigation and he is an author in the collection.
