Burt Beck, a union official and editor of union newspapers, died of cancer on February 12, 1990, at his home in Suffern, N.Y. He was 71 years old.
Mr. Beck was most recently director of communications of the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers' Union and editor of Labor Unity, a newspaper resulting from the merger in 1972 of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers and the Textile Workers Union of America. He had been editor of an Amalgamated publication, The Advance, and Textile Labor, the Textile Workers' newspaper. He was also director of public relations for both unions.
From 1946 to 1955, Mr. Beck worked on public relations for the Hotel Workers Union, the International Union of Electrical Workers and the Seafarers International Union. He was also a former vice president of the Workers Defense League. He retired in 1983. Mr. Beck graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1938.
Surviving are his wife, Dora; a son, Thomas, of East Windsor, N.J., and two daughters, Ruth Arcone of Brooklyn and Nora Judd of Haddam Neck, Conn.
