Autobiography of John Tait entitled "The days of the years of my life, volume 1". Covers the period 1842-1898 and written ca. 1902. Includes descriptions of early years in Geelong, 1851; detailed accounts of school life at Melbourne Academy 1852-1854, Scotch College 1855-1856 and 1859, and Geelong Grammar 1857-1858; his experiences as a bank clerk in various parts of Victoria, and his involvement with the Presbyterian Church. Volume contains photographs of his relatives, friends and buildings; and genealogical information. Also correspondence, 1852-1936, of Rev. James Thomson (grandfather of J.B. Tait) and family. Includes letters to Rev. James Thomson in Victoria from his brother John in Scotland, 1853-1885; letters from Rev. James Thomson in Emerald Hill, Vic. (ie South Melbourne) to his son John, 1882-1884; letters to James Thomson from his niece Jane Thomson, 1887-1889; miscellaneous letters, 1852-1936; and documents relating to the Tait family, 1817-1837.

Contains various kinds of accounts including accounts with individuals (many individuals in Hanover Co., Va.), for goods purchased from Jerdone; with merchants in Great Britain, and with the ships' captains who carried goods between Virginia and England; lists of supplies of staples such as salt and rum; invoices for tobacco shipped to England; and a summary of Jerdone's finances. Goods include sugar, molasses, chocolates, cheese, tea, beer, raisins, hats, hosiery and snuff. Also concerns buying and selling of slaves; and shows tobacco marks of various planters. Accounts include those of Robert Anderson, John Backhouse, John Baylor, John Chiswell, Henry Cooke, John Cooper, Archibald Crawford, Robert Donald, John Goldsmith, Dr. Alexander Jameson, Bennitt Kirby, Edward Lankford, Thomas Nelson, John Norton, Mann Page, the proprietors of the Raleigh Tavern, William Stevenson, John Thomson, John Winn and George Wythe.

Thomson, William Sydnor, 1843-1913. William Sydnor Thompson papers, 1858-1906.

Title: William Sydnor Thompson papers, 1858-1906.

The majority of this collection consists of correspondence (1858-1880) between William Sydnor Thomson and his family and friends, the bulk of which is between William S. Thomson and his father, Warner A. Thomson. William S. Thomson also corresponded frequently with his brother John, a student at Fort Edward Institute in New York, and after the Civil War, the operator of a grist mill near Marietta. The collection also contains two journals, dating January 1, 1873 - April 8, 1876, and April 12, 1876 - November 17, 1876, which discuss Thomson's personal and professional life and describe events of the day. Three account books, dated September 28, 1865 - December 23, 1871, January 1, 1877 - March 27, 1880, and January 1, 1886 - July 27, 1889, make up the last series in this collection. Writings about William Sydnor Thomson consists of clippings from 1897. These have been photocopied and researchers are asked to use the photocopy rather than the originals. Writings about William Sydnor Thomson consist of clippings from 1897. The collection also contains three journals kept by Warner Alexander Thomson, William's father. These are roughly dated April 1861-February 1867. In addition, the collection contains Civil War era artifacts, including two cannonballs and seven minie balls.
