Papers are comprised of correspondence, including photocopied transcripts of three letters (1835), genealogical information on the Waddill and Bessonett families, an autograph book of Elizabeth McMichael, printed items including newspapers, photocopies of newspaper clippings, photographs, photocopied photographs and documents, genealogical materials of the Waddle, McMichael, and Bessonet families, and miscellaneous items. Photocopied transcripts of three letters (1835) between George Brown and his brothers Joseph and William discuss health and receipt of bank drafts. Civil War letters relate to conditions in camp, lack of supplies and clothing for soldiers, hardships endured after the burning of buildings and supplies by Union soldiers. A letter by L. B. Cand discusses plans to sink a dry dock opposite Fort Pickens and treatment of a Confederate soldier held as prisoner (May 19, 1861). Abel Waddill describes the "demoralization" of the Confederate Army (Dec. 25, 1864). Later correspondence refers to health, business, and general news, with references to the assassination of President Garfield (July 3, 1881) and destruction caused by a tornado in Baton Rouge, Louisiana (July 16, 1891).

George Waddill's papers contain military furlough and travel passes; Confederate bonds; a railroad ticket on the Mobile and Ohio Railroad to Enterprise, Alabama; military orders assigning Waddill to hospitals in Meridian and Brookhaven, Mississippi; newspaper clippings; an 1865 document granting parole to G. D. Waddill, granted by the U. S. Commissioner; and an 1865 Oath of Allegiance to the United States, signed by Waddill.
