Animadversions on the paraphrase titulo Parliamentum in Sr. Henry Spelmans glossary..., [18th century].
Manuscript, in two hands, of objections and answers to Sir Henry Spelman's "last Edition and Addition of the Glossary printed 1664," which seek to prove that "the Commons of England were a parte of the Comune Concilium Regni or Parliament long before the end of H.3. reigne notwithstandinge the positive assertion to the Contrary." The manuscript includes a description of the "Saxon Wittena Gemott or Parliament of the English before the comeing in of William the first" and cites passages from William of Malmesbury. Elsewhere, the writer asks the reader, "may I humbly beg the favourable Judgment of the learned Reader if I essay to coment upon and endeavour to explaine that Weighty and obscure Clause inserted in King Johns Charter but totally omitted in King Henryes touchinge the fforme and order of Calleinge or Summoninge othe Commune Conciliarum Regni or Parliament and the intended integrall partes thereof the understanding of which hath not been clearly explicated by any Author or Historian in my opinion."
