Dr. Melvin George delivered a small speech on Mr. Havener's association with the Archives and handed him his desk pen set as a memento of the occassion. Also present were President Emeritus Dr. Elmer Ellis, Bessie Hume, Secretary to the President and others.

The Western Historical Manuscript Collection served as Archives for UM until the organization of the University Archives in 1969.

The Archives Procedure Manual is revised and updated continuously. No copy of the original, from 1970, exists. Copies of the Manual from 1979, including updates, have been kept. In August 1986, the Manual was placed on fixed disk storage of DW3. In August 1990 the Manual was converted from the software program DW3 to Wordperfect 5.1 and updated... The Accession Manual lists all accessions from the beginning of UM Archives but there is a gap from 1/13/71 to 7/2/74.
