Although this collection includes information relating to Geissler's time at the University of Georgia, much of the material deals with his non-UGA activities. Most of the papers in UGA 07-032/UGA 08-031 were donated by L. R. Geissler's granddaughters, Barbara Noel Dowds and Ruth Marie Noel. They provided the papers to UGA Psychology Emeritus Professor - Roger K. Thomas - to use while researching his biographical chapter on Geissler for the book Southern Society for Philosophy and Psychology Presidents and Presidential Addresses edited by James L. Pate. The "Content Inventory" consists of folder labels. Found within most of these folders are numerous letters (including some from E.B. Titchener), documents, biographical materials, manuscripts of articles, and other materials.

The bulk of the collection consists of family correspondence among the Blackwells and Leavells, 1895-1923, including letters of Louise and Nancy Blackwell who attended Randolph-Macon Woman's College, 1899-1905, letters of Joseph M. Blackwell at the U.s. Naval Academy, 1905-1911, letters of Edwin S. Blackwell, Jr., at the University of virginia, 1910-1912, and World War I letters of Edwin and John Davenport Blackwell. Also of interest are letters concerning Agnes Blackwell's career as an interior decorator in Bar Harbor, Maine.

Collection consists chiefly of scenes from Lynchburg including Lynchburg General Hospital, Allied Arts Building and Virginia Hotel, Fine Arts Center, Father Judge Mission Seminary, Monument Terrace and Courthouse (3 views), Municipal Stadium, Lynchburg College (2 views), the Miller Claytor House, and the Langhorne Memorial Chapel at Virginia Episcopal School. There are also views of the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive including Peaks of Otter; Mountain Lake; Sweet Briar (2 views from the "west dell" taken before and after the building of Memorial Chapel in 1966); Randolph-Macon Women's College; and Hampton Institute. There is also a postcard of the Sidney E. King painting of Robert E. Lee and Charles Marshall leaving the McLean House at Appamattox following the surrender and another of the McLean House.

Letters from Dumas, Miles, and Kemp Malone to their parents concerning their experiences in the service during World War I and other letters. Dumas Malone, a second lieutenant in the Marine Corps, writes about signaling, training, rifle drill, visits to Randolph Macon Woman's College, to Philadelphia and to New York with future architect Henry Johnston Toombs. Miles Malone, a second lieutenant with the Allied Expeditionary Forces, describes the 23rd Infanatry's arrival in France and march through France, Belgium and Luxembourg to Germany, patrol duty in a neutral zone the decoration of the 23rd for Soissons, being billeted in German homes and travelling to an Army football game. Kemp Malone writes about choosing between the National Guard and the Army and publication of an article. Three later letters, 1948-1953, mention his work as a philologist.

Among the family letters are letters, 1897-1898, from Samuel Hairston to May Jopling, during their courtship; love-letters and personal correspondence, 1898- 1931, between Samuel J. Hairston and his wife; and letters, beginning in 1918, many of which are undated, from the children of Samuel and May Hairston to their parents, while the children were at preparatory schools and colleges, including Salem Academy and College, Virginia Episcopal School, Fishburne Military School, Virginia Military Institute, Duke University, Randolph Macon Woman's College, Moravian Seminary and College for Women, and Columbia University. Business papers relate to Hairston's interests in dairy farming, livestock, real estate, the Democratic Party, the Danville and Western Railroad, and the Virginia Board of Agriculture. Also included are papers, 1909-1911, of James Rufus Jopling, bank president, about the construction of the First National Bank, Danville County, Va.
