He occasionally mentions his work, difficulties with publishers, and presents and visits from Symons. In letters, 1895-1923, to Edward Garnett, Conrad discusses his problems with "Outcast of the Islands," "Nigger of the Narcissus," "Lord Jim," and "Rescue" and asks for advice. He thanks Garnett for his assistance, encourages him to write and mentions criticism of his books. In letters, 1918-1920, to Sidney Colvin, Conrad tells of his son's gassing in the war, a bout with depression, and work on "The Rescue." There is also a letter, 1896 Sept. 24, to an unknown recipient thanking him for the "happy termination of that Cosmopolitan episode" and mentioning a new untitled short story. The collection also contains a typescript and printed pamphlet "Joseph Conrad, the history of his books," by Richard Henry Parnell Curle discussing facts behind Conrad's novels and short stories.
