The New England Society in the City of Brooklyn was a social, historical, and charitable organization incorporated in 1880 in response to the growing number of New Englanders residing in Brooklyn. The Society's records consist of correspondence, membership lists and files, ephemera, financial records, and reports and minutes spanning the period 1880 to 1981, with the bulk of the items dating from 1880 to 1916. The collection touches upon all functions of the Society, including its administrative and financial operations, membership, annual social events, and charitable activities.

Thomas Davidson papers, 1857-1948, 1857-1902

Title: Thomas Davidson papers 1857-1948 1857-1902

Correspondence, lectures, articles, printed matter, clippings, and film relating to the career of Davidson who came to the U.S. in 1867 and was associated with the St. Louis and Concord schools of philosophy, the founding of the Fellowship of the New Life, and the establishment of the Breadwinners' College. From 1878 to 1884, he was in Italy studying the writings of Antonio Rosmini-Serbati, about whom he published a study in 1882. The major portion of the papers is made up of correspondence, including letters from Henry Adams, John Dewey, Oliver Wendell Holmes, William James, Henry Cabot Lodge, John Stuart Mill, and Stephen Samuel Wise. Only a few pages of his diary of 1858 survive. Also with the papers is material from Edward Endelman, a student of Davidson's. Of particular interest is Endelman's correspondence about Davidson with William T. Harris, a Hegelian philosopher who had been a close friend of Davidson's. In addition, two reels of microfilm collected by John Roemischer which contain letters and articles by Davidson in other repositories have been added to the papers.

Hooper in promoting the establishment of the school; minutes and financial records ot the Board of Trustees of the State Institute of Applied Agriculture, 1912-1922; an account book of the college, 1912-1942; minutes of the faculty, 1920-1923, and records of various faculty committees; correspondence of administration and faculty; printed materials such as catalogs for day and evening classes, bulletins, newsletters, yearbooks, magazines, and newspapers; policy manuals and staff handbooks; press releases; and annual reports of the College and of SUNY. There are also minutes of the state-wide faculty senate of SUNY, 1954-1964; records of the library; blueprints for various buildings, building reports and campus plans; historical writings, research files, notes, clippings, statistics, and a visitors register, 1916-1939. Photographs include prints and negatives of students, faculty, staff, campus scenes, buildings, classes, barns, fields and aerial views.

The records contain the official correspondence of Arthur Twining Hadley during his tenure as president of Yale University. The papers document the rapid change and expansion which occurred at Yale during Hadley's presidency. The incoming correspondence contains letters with members of the Yale faculty and administration; requests for personal appearances and speeches and articles; inquiries from educational administrators; and correspondence with alumni relating to fund-raising and class reunions. The outgoing correspondence, in letterbook form, consists of carbon copies of Hadley's official outgoing correspondence from 1899 to 1921. Also included are subject files relating to ROTC and other military training programs; acceptances and regrets to invitations to Hadley's inauguration; newspaper clippings relating to Hadley's activities; copies of three addresses by Hadley; a notebook kept by one of Hadley's students in Economics 20 (1894-1895); Hadley's office appointment books (1900-1920); and two photograph albums.
