Lucius I. Barber, a native of Simsbury, Connecticut, wrote a history of his hometown. The collection contains his manuscript (0.5 linear foot) as well as correspondence (0.25 linear foot), mostly to Barber from his parents and siblings while he was at Georgetown University and also while he was living in North Carolina and Wisconsin. Earlier letters are addressed to Calvin Barber, Lucius' father.

Correspondence with family and friends of resident of Simsbury, Conn., who migrated to Madison, Wisconsin and was a member of the Wisconsin legislature; correspondents include Henry Gassett, John Reed, Calvin Barber and Virgil Barber; includes holograph copy of article on tobacco copied from the October 1841 issue of Northern Light; letter of January 11, 1841 refers to Connecticut as the land of steady habits.
