This collection of papers consists of sermons, 1729-1747, of Rev. William Jennison 1st, mostly preached at Salem and Westboro, Massachusetts; a notebook of extracts, anecdotes, poems and aphorisms, 1809-1810, and 28 diaries, 1813-1842, of William Jennison 2nd, which record social life, trips, weather, daily concerns, and deaths, particularly of judges, lawyers, sheriffs and coroners in Worcester County. The collection also includes poems of Samuel Jennison, 1809-1859, his diary, 1819, and 16 boxes of biographical notes, filed in two alphabetical series, 1800-1860, on several hundred prominent individuals of the period; finally, there is a diary, November 1848-December 1849, of Ann Elizabeth Jennison, which records her personal, social, familial and religious life (she married Barton on April 4, 1849). The collection also includes a notebook on shorthand written by "Samuel Jennison Jr."; a Jennison family poetry volume, 1836-1841; and miscellaneous papers, 1761-1860, consisting mostly of correspondence of Samuel Jennison and his family.
