Stearns, Daniel B. [Notice : Atlantic Cotton Mills].

Title: [Notice : Atlantic Cotton Mills]. 1849.

A handwritten notice indicating that weavers employed in Atlantic Mill No. 2 are required to stay in the weave room at mealtimes and until the end of the work day. The notice also says that no weaver will be employed who leaves the room before the proper time. The reverse of the notice reads: Atlantic Mill No. 2, Upper Weave Room, Nov. 26, 1849/Put up Nov. 5, 1849/Taken down Nov. 26, 1849.

Contains miscellaneous executive papers appearing to relate to financial difficulties, fraud of a selling agent, and a claim against Indian Orchard Mills. Includes report to stockholders, 1876; correspondence; directors' report, 1886; and notes about finances of the company.

Battles, Joseph P., 1822-1900. [Weather diaries].

Title: [Weather diaries]. 1878-1909.

Battles was agent of the Atlantic Cotton Mills. The first volume indicates that the records were made by him at the agent's house in Lawrence, Mass. Battles moved to North Andover, Mass. in 1887; the second volume records the weather in North Andover. After Battles's death in 1900, there are continued entries by an unidentified compiler. Included is information on water levels, temperature, rainfall, etc., plus mention of mill closings in Lawrence due to the 1894 depression and information about public events. Also contains newspaper clippings about the sale of Battles's mill property and potential buyers, including Geo. E. Kunhardt Co.
