Letters, May 18 and July 12, 1850, one to "Higbee" and one to "friend" discuss investigating corruption in the Department of the Interior ("this administration has acted fraudulently, wrongfully and against the law"), those in Congress against the administration, his hopes for re-election, belief that Fillmore will abandon Taylor's policies and plans to return home to campaign when Congress adjourns. One letter, Oct. 7, 1837, to Peter Pruyne, a Chicago merchant and builder, regarding payment of debt by "Skidmore and Fellows."
