36 ALS, most of them to his wife Eliza. His describes California and Sacramento, gives news of his various jobs, and generally poor state of health. His letters carry many inquiries for relations in Kelloggsville, with directions for Eliza regarding the house and finances. Many of his letters concern his finances in California, and his desire to have the family join him in the West, either in California or Oregon. One letter is to his teen-aged daughter Jenet describing two pets at the ranch, and dispensing advice. One letter is to his brother, and another letter is written to him by William Slade in 1866 concerning his father.
