This collection contains papers of Thomas H. Gage and his two sons, Homer Gage and T. Hovey Gage. The papers of Thomas H. Gage include: medical notes, 1852-1883; professional correspondence, 1850-1908; and medical addresses and hospital reports, 1862-1908. The papers of Homer Gage include: a journal of a visit to Washington, D.C., in 1878; social and professional correspondence, 1888-1932; and medical addresses and papers, 1901-1935. The papers of T. Hovey Gage include: correspondence on the portrait artists Ralph Earl (1751-1801) and Ralph E. W. Earl (ca. 1785-1838), and Earl genealogy, 1894-1935; miscellaneous material on Ralph Earl, 1812-1935, which includes notes and correspondence on several Worcester County portrait artists, 1891-1935. There are also catalogs, miscellaneous portrait reproductions, newspaper clippings on portraits, and a checklist of painters from Boston directories, 1914-1935.
