Correspondence, diaries, bills, accounts, receipts, account books, ships' manifests, deeds, leases, other land records, legal documents, broadsides, and other printed materials relating to or created by the Livingston family, including Robert Livingston, Alida Schuyler Van Rensselaer Livingston, Philip Livingston, Robert Livingston, Jr., Henry Livingston, and Johnston Livingston. Papers relate to family matters, business concerns, affairs of New York and Albany County under British Colonial rule and after independence, the trade and commerce of the Hudson Valley, Jacob Leisler's rebellion, privateers such as Captain Kidd, Indian affairs, and the American Revolution. Papers of Robert Livingston, 1661-1728, constitute the largest series and pertain to family and financial concerns, his public office duties including excise collections in Albany, the Mayors Court in Albany, provisioning of troops, and Indian affairs in colonial New York, especially the fur trade, alliances against the French, Indian warfare in New York, land titles, and missions to the Iroquois. Other colonial figures appearing in these papers include Thomas Dongan, Robert Hunter, William Burnett, George Calvert Lord Baltimore, John Winthrop, Alexander Spotswood, John Pynchon, and Peter Schuyler.
