There have been nine accruals. Four of the accruals are main accruals and designated Parts I through IV. The first accrual consists of Parts I and II. Part I, 1905-1965, is arranged into two series: executive and author. The executive series is arranged into the following sub-series: correspondence by president -- Frank Wise, Hugh Eayrs, Robert Huckvale and John Gray; other executive material; and financial material. The author series is arranged into the following sub-series: manuscripts, author correspondence, readers' reports, copyright registrations and assignments, contracts, publicity files, and production files. Part II, 1902-1980, is arranged into the following series: executive, author, royalties, and production and promotion. The executive series is arranged into the following sub-series: correspondence by president and other executives: Hugh Eayrs, John Gray, Hugh Kane, Gladys E. Neale, Ed Trefiak, George Gilmour and John W. Baker, other executive material; financial material. The author series is arranged into the following sub-series: manuscripts, typescripts and proofs, author correspondence, rejection letters, abandoned projects and contracts. The royalties series is arranged into the following sub-series: royalty worksheets, sales reports, royalty correspondence, royalty reports and statements. The second accrual measures 19.9 m, and consists of Part III, 1918-1975. It is arranged into the following series: artwork, miscellaneous artwork, oversize artwork, and a number of appendices: artwork not kept, correspondence, financial, inventory, catalogues, photographs, books, magazines and booklets. The third accrual measures 64 cm, and mainly consists of material relating to John Diefenbaker's memoir One Canada. The fourth accrual (19-1990) measures 10.2 m, and consists of copyright registrations. The fifth accrual (25-1991) consists of a permissions book. The sixth accrual (06-1993) consists of Part IV, 1947-1992. It has been arranged into the following series: manuscripts, typescripts, proofs; promotion; executive (Douglas M. Gibson, Linda McKnight) author correspondence; executive (Douglas M. Gibson) other material; executive, minutes and related documents; contracts, subsidiary rights and permission (Ann Nelles); artwork. The seventh accrual (11-1993) consists of items concerning Frank Wise. The eighth (14-1999) measures 4.2 m, and has been arranged into the following series: author correspondence; book awards; government and grants; annual book sales. The ninth accrual (09-2003) measures 3.41 m, and has been arranged into the following series: executive records, acquisitions and mergers, property records, financial records, correspondence and legal decisions, contract summaries and royalty statements, manuscript indices and promotion.

Reference is made to damage to the furniture at The Square (Newcastle, N.B.) and suggested repairs; vandalism in St. James Presbyterian Church graveyard; the possible relocation of the gazebo from The Square to an indoor area; request for books drawn from the Dept. of Education's supplementary reading list and Beaverbrook's approval of same; the passenger boat "Max Aitken" and Beaverbrook's desire to find the name plate that was affixed to it; gift of books from the Sherrard Collection to be divided among the Bonar Law Bennett and Old Manse Libraries and the Royal Canadian Air Cadets and a gift of books from the library of Rev. Arthur William Teed to the Old Manse--donated by Blanche Teed. The possibility of registering the Newcastle library, theatre and rink as charities is also discussed.

The collection consists of one TLS, three pages, small quarto (7 3/16 by 11 inches) from Margaret Mitchell in Atlanta, Georgia, dated October 5, 1937, to Miss Ellen Elliott. There is slight staining in the upper-left corners, otherwise the letter is in good condition. In it, Mitchell regretfully declines Elliott's invitation on behalf of the Macmillan Company of Canada to be their guest during a book fair in Canada. Mitchell explains that she has refused all invitations to speak lest she be obliged to accept every one. She also discusses the reception of Gone with the wind, especially in the South, and how its sales have vastly exceeded her expectations. Also included is Elliott's typewritten reply, thanking Mitchell for her letter, and expressing her understanding. She offers another invitation to Mitchell in case she should decide at some time in the future to visit Canada, and tells her that she is a "past master at the art of 'keeping people off.'"
