A letter to Allan and McKinlay suggests they open a business in southern Oregon and an 1862 letter to William H. Farrar contains reminiscences (WA MSS 11).

Henry Spalding's 1843 letter to Archibald McKinlay requests McKinlay to speak on his behalf to the American Board regarding Spalding's recall from the missions (WA MSS 435). The narrative, written sometime after the events, describes Spalding's 1836 overland journey to Fort Vancouver and Lapawi, and the beginning of the American Prostestant missions beyond the Rockies (WA MSS 436).
