Although collected primarily for their postmarks, the items in the Thurman collection relate to a wide variety of topics. Correspondence discusses politics, the military, business, legal matters, religion, slavery, and education. The collection contains a large sample of early stamps and Kentucky postmarks. Many feature handwritten and hand-stamped cancellations. Most of the collection is arranged alphabetically by postmark.
