Financial records include annual inventories, 1857-1858, 1875-1880; trial balances, 1869-1912; journals, 1861-1921; ledgers, 1856-1921; daybooks, 1854-1878, 1904-1908; and cashbooks, 1856-1912. Also includes financial information of C.G. Sargent, 1850-1880. Contains bills and receipts, 1851-1884; order books, 1857-1908; payrolls, 1864-1884, 1895-1901; inventories, 1908-1917; blueprint files, ca. 1919-1945; photograph files by machine type, c. 1900-1913; and parts and pattern lists, 1855-1913. Also contains records of Chauncy Mills, located in Graniteville and making worsted hosiery. Includes general business correspondence, 1877-1878; annual inventories, 1875-1878; a ledger, journal, daybook, and cashbook, 1878-1883. Also contains records, 1900-1920, of James M. Sargent Co. of Graniteville, which manufactured parts for automobiles; records, 1866-1879, of the Stony Brook Water Power Co., of Westford, Mass., incorporated in 1866 by C.G. Sargent and others to maintain reservoirs in Westford; and a journal, 1864-1870, of Barlow Combing Co., located in Graniteville.

Title: Ripley Hitchcock papers, [ca. 1885]-1935.

Letters written to James Ripley Wellman Hitchcock, to Mrs. Hitchcock, and to Richard Henry Stoddard from various people in literary artistic and dramatic circles, mainly of New York. There are letters and documents relating to Hitchcock's early life, photographs, a group of materials relating to the American Art Alliance in which Mrs. Hitchcock was interested, and a group of miscellaneous papers and letters relating to the publication, dramatization, filming, and radio rights of Edward N. Westcott's DAVID HARUM which Mr. Hitchcock was instrumental in having published. Also, manuscripts and printed versions of Charles Chapin Sargent's (brother of Mrs. Ripley Hitchcock) writings including short stories and a libretto for an operetta, "Cleopatra," written for the Columbia College Musical Society in 1897, two scrapbooks containing mementos of his college years, two pictures, and a Columbia College diploma.

Sargent family. Papers, 1782-1868, 1829-1861 (bulk).

Title: Papers, 1782-1868, 1829-1861 (bulk).

Consists of two account books, kept primarily by John Jenks Sargent, and related family documents. The first account book opens with 38 leaves of accounts kept by Nathaniel Sargent, most of which record only amounts carried over from his waste book. The most detailed accounts deal with settling the estate of Benjamin Massay and being guardian for the Massay children. The remainder of the book contains accounts kept by John Jenks Sargent on some 96 leaves. It includes personal and business accounts including (leaf 28) the "cost of shoemakers shop," extensive lists of repairs on his house, and on renting parts of the house out to boarders. At the end of the volume, on un-numbered leaves, are a list of tenants from 1794 to 1861 and accounts of things given to his daughters previous to their marriages including an itemized list of ingredients for their wedding cakes. The second volume records shoes and boots made by Sargent from 1823 to 1838. Also included is a bill of wages adopted by journeymen shoemakers of Lynn, 1860. The collection also features probate court records of John Jenks Sargent's estate after he died intestate in 1868. The contract made by Charles H. Sargent with Pine Groves Cemetery for the burial is also included. Other legal documents deal with the transfer of ownership of the rental properties. Loose accounts record miscellaneous financial transactions. Several issues of a newspaper, the Lynn Report, were kept with the estate transactions. A water bill addressed to Mrs. Bessie G. Sargent in 1895 was found with the other papers.
