The Lincoln and Mercury Public relations records series, 1947-1960, (1 cubic ft.), Acc. 701, 765, includes correspondence regarding presenting a 1957 Lincoln automobile to Sam Crawford, a Detroit Tiger outfielder (Acc. 701), public relations records regarding various press events, and construction photographs of the St. Louis plant which built Mercury automobiles (Acc. 765). The subseries also includes foreign branch financial reports and credit analysis primarily from Ford offices in Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Mexico, and Uruguay with additional material from Ford offices in China and Japan. The Subject Files subseries, 1917-1948 (1.2 cubic ft.), Acc. 58, consists of financial reports, sales and production reports, purchasing records, and tax related material from senior management at Ford Motor Company, Ltd., to staff in the Auditing Department, Accounting Department, Controller's Office, and Office of the Secretary. The A.M. Wibel records series is made up of two subseries, the Office papers subseries and the Ships Salvage records subseries. The Ships Salvage records subseries, 1926 (2 cubic ft.), Acc. 546, is described separately. The Office papers subseries consists of two subsubseries: the General Files subsubseries, 1923-1943 (19.6 cubic ft.), Acc. 390, and the Numerical Files subsubseries, 1903-1943 (19.2 cubic ft.), Acc. 390. Both subsubseries are made up of an extensive variety of materials in terms of both scope and format, reflecting Ford Motor Company's worldwide reach in many areas of industry, not to mention Wibel's great responsibility within the company-in some cases, a responsibility that seems to have extended beyond the Purchasing Department. Types of materials and subjects covered include correspondence, cost analyses, leases, product comparisons, purchase orders, specification blueprints, strike data, credit reports, wage reports, labor agreements, and publicity event documents. Blueprints are scattered throughout the collection, not just in the sections so named or noted. To a lesser extent, this is the case for photographs as well. Of particular note are blueprints for parts for the Consolidated Bomber Project, or B-24. The General Files subseries is arranged alphabetically by subject. Topics important due both to their bulk in the collection and their relevance to automobile manufacture include general purchasing costs; data, cost analyses, specifications, and related materials on automobile bodies, rubber, aircraft (including bombers such as the B-24); and other World War II-era government contracts. Five boxes of Wibel's office correspondence are arranged alphabetically by correspondent or topic. More individually significant are files on various suppliers, as well as minutes and other materials from Ford's lending arm, Universal Credit Company (or Universal Credit Corporation). Noteworthy both in size and interest are Wibel's extensive files of clippings on national strike data, a topic of concern at the then non-union Ford Motor Company. Within the Numerical Files subsubseries, files are numbered and arranged within lettered groupings. The exact nature of the original filing system for this subsubseries is not known. Many, but not all, of the letter groupings correspond to a category: for example, B for Bodies, C for Clutch, J for Steel, etc. In addition to a number, every file has some sort of descriptive title as well. The files are arranged by letter code and then alphabetically by folder heading. There is some overlap between this subsubseries and the General Files subsubseries. Topics of significant interest in the Numerical Files subsubseries include the Henry Ford Hospital; Henry Ford Trade School; Ford Motor Company of Canada, Ford Motor Company Ltd. of England, and other national and international Ford branches or subsidiaries, including a small amount of information from Ford Motor Company of Japan, Ltd.; worlds' fairs, including the New York World's Fair and the Ford Exposition of Progress in Chicago (1934); Ford's Brazilian rubber plantations; Soviet corporation Autostroy; wartime production and government bids and contracts; labor relations; and impact assessments of various taxes and pieces of legislation. As in the General Files subsubseries, there can be found clippings files on topics important, from Wibel's perspective, to the company's smooth running and financial well-being, including salary data from a time when salary caps and disclosures were a contentious issue. Also abundant are data on raw materials such as glass and steel and parts such as tires.

The Cardinal Car Program subseries (0.4 cubic ft.), 1958-1961, contains planning documents for the development and production of the Cardinal automobile in Cologne, Germany. The Other Programs subseries (0.2 cubic ft.), 1950-1960, includes files on the Fordomatic transmission; Segment I economy car planning; the Cologne foundry; and cost accounting analyses of the Cardinal small car program, Canadian X and Canadian Y car programs, and the 1961-1963 Thunderbird program. Extant records of Fordson Estates Limited, an agricultural development project of Henry Ford's in the 1930s through the 1940s. The records represent one example of Henry Ford's ongoing interest in agricultural development. This small body of materials deals directly with the daily operation of the farms on Fordson Estates and records many of the loans made from Ford Motor Company Limited, England to finance the operations. The records include two photograph albums and a folder containing four photographic prints of the buildings and grounds of the Boreham House Estate (later renamed Fordson Estates) at the time of purchase by Henry Ford, circa 1931; one minute book of the board of directors detailing the operations of Fordson Estates Limited, 1931-1946 (a second minute book, a continuation of the first, is referred to but not extant within the collection); three account registers (one blank), 1931-1948; one printed copy of the articles of association for Fordson Estates Limited,1931, along with a certificate of incorporation, 1949; one ledger for the operation of the Boreham House Estate, 1931-1933; one folder of correspondence relating chiefly to taxes and finances, 1937-1956; and one monograph on the Fordson Estates, Ten Years' Romance, written by Lord Perry. There are four folders of loose enclosures removed from the registers and account and minute books, 1931-1950 and undated.

The Reports series is arranged into two subseries. The most substantial of the two is the Territory Reports subseries, 1921-1927 (1.2 cubic ft.), Acc. 6. The subseries is comprised of reports to the Office of the President, Ford Motor Company, from district supervisors. The reports cover all phases of branch plant operations and the personnel responsible for maintenance of branch operations. Arrangement is alphabetical by name of supervisor. The Special Files and Reports subseries, 1917-1936 (0.4 cubic ft.), Acc. 6, contains miscellaneous reports and correspondence files. It includes material on Edsel B. Ford's draft exemption in 1917, copies of three Willow Run bomber contracts, financial and budget reports on schools Edsel supported, and an undated transcript of an address given by E. G. Pipp at Temple Israel in Akron, Ohio. Pipp was a Detroit News editor, an early editor of the Dearborn Independent, and editor and publisher of Pipp's Weekly. The Financial records series is comprised of six subseries. The Edsel Ford Audit Papers subseries, 1941-1942 (0.4 cubic ft.), Acc. 543, consists of working papers and summary sheets for audits of Edsel Ford's office for 1941 by the Auditing Department of the Ford Motor Company. The Ford Motor Company Ltd. records subseries, 1929-1935 (1.2 cubic ft.), Acc. 261, consists of financial ledgers and consolidated balance sheets with related reports and correspondence. The records pertain to the financial operations of English and European companies owned by the Ford Motor Company and include monthly, quarterly, and annual reports sent to the president of the company, Edsel B. Ford. The National Recovery Administration records subseries 1933-1937 (5.6 cubic ft.), Acc. 52 and Acc. 279 is comprised of correspondence, reports, literature, and federal government information relating to the National Recovery Administration (NRA). Ford Motor Company observed codes devised by government and labor but never officially signed on. The records include NRA codes for wide ranging industries such as coal, lumber, wood distillation, fertilizer, petroleum, and farm equipment. The records also contain tabulations of wages and hours for 1933 to 1935. The Office of the Treasurer records subseries, 1903-1932 (1.2 cubic ft.), Acc. 483, includes comparative balance sheets for the Ford Motor Company from 1903 to 1915; notes receivable from 1908 to 1932; plant engineering contracts and agreements for Ford Motor Company Highland Park Plant, the Ford Motor Company Rouge River Plant and a Ford plant in Atlanta, Georgia; and miscellaneous legal records. Highland Park contracts include several for work on the power house in 1919; contracts for the Rouge are primarily for the blast furnace in 1919. The Purchase Orders subseries, 1922-1940 (1.6 cubic ft.) Acc. 6, contains copies of purchase orders issued by the office of Edsel Ford for material and services purchased for his residences and personal activities. Arranged in numerical order and held in bound volumes, they were issued to both outside vendors and to the Ford Motor Company. The Universal Credit Corporation records subseries, 1928-1932 (1.2 cubic ft.), Acc. 6, includes certificates of incorporation, bylaws, stockholders meeting minutes, and board of director meeting minutes for Universal Credit Corporation, Delaware; Universal Credit Company of America; Universal Credit Company of Indiana; and Universal Credit Company of New York. (The Universal Credit Corporation was incorporated in 1928 to finance Ford products for the first time on an installment basis.)

The North America and South America subseries, 0.8 cubic ft., 1926-1980, includes correspondences, procedure and operations letters, accounting letters and instructions, and press releases from Ford operations in Brazil, Canada, and the United States. The Photographs series is comprised of three subseries. The Glass Plate Negatives subseries, 2 oversize boxes, circa. 1930-1950, consists of glass plate negatives documenting operations, product promotions, public demonstrations, and company events primarily at the Dagenham plant. The Photograph Albums series, 17 cubic ft., 1927-1964, is comprised of photograph albums documenting construction and plant renovation programs at various Ford facilities in Belgium, Denmark, Egypt, England, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, and Switzerland. Of special interest are the 42 albums that document the construction of the Dagenham plant from ground breaking to completion. The Photographic Prints subseries, 3 cubic ft., 1911-1972, includes prints of construction, renovation projects, and operations at Ford plants throughout England. The Scrapbooks series, 5 oversize boxes, 1935-1970, consists of scrapbooks of photographs and newspaper clippings, covering Ford operations, employee parties, war production, damage to plants, and relief operations in London during World War II. The Victor J. Perini papers consist primarily of personal photographs documenting the various Ford Motor Company positions he held. The papers include photographs of Liberty motors; the Green Island, New York power plant; assembly lines at the Ford plant in Manchester, England and promotional photographs of the 250,000th Model T produced in England; and employee housing and plant operations at the Iron Mountain sawmill. Of special interest is an unbound album of construction progress photographs documenting the development of Ford rubber operations in Brazil between 1928 and 1931.

Documents in Edsel Ford's office were filed in two ways. Most correspondence was filed alphabetically by company name or personal name. Other items were gathered together around topics and filed in subject files. Correspondence that was voluminous on a single topic was also placed in a subject file. The Subject Files series is comprised of Edsel Ford office correspondence with individuals and companies arranged alphabetically by subject. In some cases where the files are large, subject headings were further subdivided. Included among the topics are names of companies and organizations in which Edsel Ford had an active interest. Of particular note are reports and correspondence sent to Edsel Ford from branches, both foreign and domestic, as well as reports and correspondence regarding Ford Motor Company of Canada and Ford Motor Company, Ltd. and associated companies. Other Ford related topics include special deliveries of Ford automobiles; Ford sponsored radio programs; Ford World War II activities; Ford participation in fairs and exhibitions; and Edsel Ford speeches. Edsel Ford's many community and philanthropic involvements are also well documented. Examples include the Detroit Aviation Society, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Detroit University School, the Edison Institute, Henry Ford Hospital, the Henry Ford Trade School, the Lincoln Highway Association, the Museum of Modern Art, and the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. There are also records that lean more toward Edsel Ford's personal activities, such as vacations, automobiles he purchased, and Christmas correspondence. Individual correspondents in the series include Admiral Richard E. Byrd and Walter Dorwin Teague. Researchers should note that there is overlap with the Personal Files series and the General Correspondence series where documents on many of the same subjects can also be found.

The Foreign Branch records subseries is made up of five subsubseries: The Accounting records subsubseries, 1926 (0.4 cubic ft.), Acc. 394, consists of correspondence, accounts receivable and payable analysis, exchange balances, branch profit and loss balance sheets, credit and debit balance sheets, and audited accounting data from Ford Motor Company branches in Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain, Sweden, and Uruguay. The Audit Reports records subsubseries, 1935-1945 (0.4 cubic ft.), Acc. 415, is made up of financial and administrative audit reports of Ford overseas branch operations in France and Germany. The audit reports include working papers, correspondence, and summary reports on the financial operations of two of Ford's European branch companies: Matford S. A. and Ford Werke, A. G. The reports were written by traveling auditors and detail the day-to-day organization and operations of the branches on the eve of World War II. The Bank Account Statements subsubseries, 1933-1946 (12.8 cubic ft.), Acc. 708, consists of branch account reconciliation statements, correspondence, credit and debit memorandums, and bank account statements for Ford subsidiary and associated companies in Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, China, Cuba, Denmark, Egypt, England, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Panama, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, and Uruguay. The European Branch Reorganization subsubseries, 1928-1939 (0.8 cubic ft.), Acc. 282, contains correspondence and financial working papers related to the reorganization of Ford's European operations. In 1928, Lord Percival L. D. Perry, general manager of Ford Motor Company, Ltd., successfully lobbied Ford management to reorganize the company's European branches as subsidiaries of the English Ford company in large part to address tax issues generated by multiple taxes on personal and corporate assets, income, and profits. Under Perry's plan, Ford Motor Company, Ltd. purchased the Ford family's stock holdings in branch companies in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and Turkey while Ford Motor Company and the Ford family members retained a majority stock holding in the English company. The Treasury Reports subsubseries, 1926-1946 (2 cubic ft and 5 volumes), Acc. 710, consists of treasury license applications, correspondence, branch income statements, branch expense reports, asset and liability information, and foreign-owned property records. The material primarily relates to Ford Motor Company's work to begin funding and reestablishing branch operations during post-war reconstruction.
