Editorial office files of the "Arena," a short-lived Irish literary magazine. The bulk of the collection is composed of holograph and typrewritten manuscripts that were published in the magazine. Among the notable contributors were Austin Clarke, Anthony Cronin, Edward Dahlberg, Robert Graves, Brian Higgins, Patrick Kavanagh, Thomas Kinsella, Mary Lavin, James Plunkett, Paul Potts, and C.H. Sisson. Includes galley and page proofs for all four issues of the magazine, editorial comments and corrections by contributors; and correspondence concerning subscriptions and advertising. Title: The Review of Contemporary Fiction/Dalkey Archive Press : records, 1980-1990

John O'Brien founded The Review of Contemporary Fiction (RCF) in 1980 and established the Dalkey Archive Press three years later. Since its inaugural Spring 1981 issue, RCF has appeared with exact regularity three times a year. Each number is devoted to one or two contemporary figures, predominantly American and British but also some European writers as well. The contents of a typical number include original work by the writer featured, an interview with him or her, a memoir or other biographical reminiscence by literary colleagues, and several extended critical articles. The Dalkey Archive Press began as a modest adjunct to RCF, issuing reprints of books by writers featured in the journal, or associated with those writers. Then in 1986, O'Brien began issuing original works.

Wallrich, Larry. Larry Wallrich collection, 1959-1992.

Title: Larry Wallrich collection, 1959-1992.

The collection consists of correspondence, manuscript material, photographs, and printed material collected by Larry Wallrich, a London book dealer, from 1959-1992. The correspondence is from various poets, artists, and other individuals to Wallrich, and mostly discusses the sale and publication of their books and general personal news. Correspondents include Stan Brakhage, Kirby Congdon, Andrew Crozier, Diane DiPrima, Albert Fine, Mark Gibbons, Michael Gold, Aidan Higgins, Robert Kelly, Hugh Kenner, R. B. Kitaj, Philip Lamantia, James Liddy, Edward Lucie-Smith, Michael Glenn McClure, David Metzler, Miriam Patchen, David Posner, Gerald Robitaille, Tom Raworth, James Reeves, Ruthven Todd, Jonathan Williams, and Rudolph Wurlitzer. In addition, the collection contains printed material collected by Wallrich, such as announcements, brochures, prospectuses, reviews, and catalogs. Finally, the collection includes some manuscript material, including drafts of poems by Michael McClure and Tom Kerrigan, and transcripts of interviews with William S. Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg.

Holy Door records, 1965-1966.

Title: Holy Door records, 1965-1966.

This collection contains about 155 manuscripts, mostly typed, covering all but eight of the poems and essays published in the Holy Door, a little magazine which was the apparent successor to James Liddy's Arena. Also included are approximately thirty unpublished manuscripts and 140 items of correspondence, mostly concerning publication of, and payment for, submissions to the magazine. Much of the correspondence is from the contributors to publisher Brian Lynch, although there are some letters addressed to James Liddy as well. There are also copies of the three issues of the magazine (one a xerox copy), and a photograph of Brian Lynch and three others.

The fonds consists of correspondence received by Montague in his capacity as editor plus a few carbons of his replies. Correspondents include Peadar O'Donnell, Liam Miller, Thomas Kinsella, and some of the other contributing writers: Aidan Higgins, Pearce Hutchinson, Val Iremonger, John Jordan, James Liddy, John McGahern, Brian Moore, Richard Murphy, James Plunkett, Richard Weber, Leslie Daiken, and Thomas McIntyre. There are also some miscellaneous letters and items; including letters from Samuel Beckett and Robin Skelton. Included with the correspondence are a few holograph notes, cuttings, manuscripts, pamphlets, and emphemera relating to The Dolmen Miscellany.
