The collection spans the years 1967 through 2003 and includes a copy of the legislative bill that established the University of Texas at San Antonio, booklets on the establishment of the University, correspondence and memoranda, speeches and presentations, organizational charts, General Faculty meeting minutes, information on the conference Mission of UT System, self-study reports on UTSA and accreditation files, magazine articles, newspaper clippings, scrapbooks, a Faculty Handbook, and other materials. Materials seem to have emanated primarily from the office of the second UTSA President, Peter T. Flawn. Also included is material created by the first UTSA President, Arleigh B. Templeton.

The collection consists of photographic negatives and contact sheets created by Gil Barrera from 1972 through 1978 while employed to photograph the physical complex and activities of the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). Among the subjects represented in the collection are construction projects, ceremonies, graduating classes, concerts, distinguished visitors, conference participants, students, professors, and members of the University of Texas administration and Board of Regents. Almost all images are identified as to person, place, or event on the verso of the contact sheets. Notable subjects include Dr. Arleigh B. Templeton (first President of UTSA), Dr. Peter T. Flawn (second President of UTSA), Michael Kelly (first Director of Libraries at UTSA), and Jacinto Quirarte (author and UTSA Professor).
