Title: Wills and Estate Papers, 1707-1956.

This series contains wills, inventories, testimentary letters, maps and other papers associated with the bequeathment and settlement of estates of residents of Historic Cherry Hill and their relatives. These papers provide inventories of furnishings, interesting personal references, and documentation of the succession of ownership of the real and personal property of Historic Cherry Hill. Some documents are in the Dutch language, but have been translated.

The collection consists of approximately 1,500 items (8 boxes). There are three major series: Correspondence, Legal Documents, and Financial Documents. In addition there are five much smaller series: Printed Material; Minutes, Proceedings, etc; Maps, Diagarams and Lists; Literary Productions; and Miscellany. The earliest documents date from 1767-68 and the latest from 1830, but the majority pertain to the 1780's and 1790s.

Title: Letters: to Edward Booker, Waltheim, 1823.

Randolph writes to Booker on 15 April 1823 with sorrow at his loss, quoting Patrick Henry that misfortune toughens manhood. A note at the bottom by T.A. Booker indicates that his father's house burned 4 April 1823. In a second, updated letter from Randolph to Booker, he tells him that he took Hale's papers from Col. Daniels' to take notes and returned them via Mr. Dudley. He clarifies the mistaken identity of General Peter Stephen Van Rensellaer for Solomon Van Rensellaer in the 27 October issue of the Spirit of 76. He also sends a newspaper account [not included] of the impressment of Mr. Gilliam in London.

Title: Letter describing Battle of Queenston, 1816.

A lengthy letter to General James Wilkinson describing the Battle of Queenston. The letter provides a detailed description of the battle and attempts to explain why the state militia would not cross the Niagara River to assist the regular U.S. Army in the attack. The last two pages of the letter discuss the gubenatorial election in New York State, in which Stephen Van Rensselaer was a candidate.

Letter to Col. Solomon Van Rensselaer. Wilkinson discusses a trip to Ballston Spa "to drink the water", and to Saratoga where he plans to view the Saratoga Battlefield. Wilkinson goes on to discuss the conduct of the war, especially the activities on the St. Lawrence frontier. He discusses his amazement at the lack of activity on the part of the British. Wilkinson wonders why the British fleet had not moved down the lake where they could bottle up his fleet and score a victory. Written at Lake George.
