Warren, who served initially with the 4th Regiment Virginia Volunteers and later as Colonel of the 10th Regiment Virginia. Volunteers writes to his wife Jennie regarding camp life and campaigns. He also sends her instructions on the management of their farm Frescatti. Topics of interest in 1861 include the Baltimore riots, life at Harper's Ferry, skirmish at Falling Waters (Hoke's Run), Mannasses (where his regiment arrived "just in time to save the day"), state of the battlefield, effect of the Rebel yell, Arnold Elzey, camps at Fairfax Station and Centreville, war induced loosening of young girls' morals, executions.
