This collection of photographs includes pictures of Atlanta and rural areas in the metropolitan Atlanta region, including Adamsville, and Alpharetta, and other areas of Fulton County. Included are street scenes in downtown Atlanta, and private residences, such as the interior of the home of Civil War collector Beverly DuBose on 2737 Peachtree Street, the home of Lemuel P. Grant in Grant Park, and farmland on Dunwoody Road. The collection is comprised of photographs of churches, including the Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, the Cathedral of Christ the King, Our Lady of the Assumption, St. John's Catholic Church, St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church, and an unidentified African American church on Baker's Ferry Road. There are several copy prints dated from the 19th century that Mr. Colley obtained that contain portraits of past church officials, and choir members of the Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and exterior and interior views of the church. Other photographs include images of Underground Atlanta, Oakland Cemetery, and Fulton County.

Papers (1827-1886) relating to Featherston's law practice, activities as judge (1850-1883), landowner, and slaveholder, and Reconstruction efforts by Methodist Church to colonize former slaves; personal and business records of Featherston's son-in-law, George Washington Peddy (1834-1913), relating to his service as Confederate surgeon and as physician in Newnan; and correspondence, diaries, legal and financial papers, genealogical materials, photos, and other papers of the Featherston, Peddy, and Wright families. Topics include family life, westward settlement in Arkansas, Civil War activities including service in 7th and 56th Georgia Infantry regiments, education of women at College Temple in Newnan (1873-1874), Lucy Cobb Institute, Athens, Ga., and Hollins College, Va. (1901-1903), and education of men in Georgia public schools, and at Emory College (1858-1859) and Atlanta Medical College (1890s). Correspondents include Joseph E. Brown, Alfred Holt Colquitt, Lemuel Pratt Grant, and Benjamin H. Hill.

Title: Antebellum and Civil War collection: Government Documents, 1860-1935, undated

This series is largely comprised of military records, including special orders, muster rolls, general orders, financial documents, requisitions, circulars, and ordinance reports. The documents are organized chronologically. Other records include those issued by state governments after the war, including pardons. Many of the military records are special orders issued for the Georgia Militia or the Fulton County Militia in Atlanta. The orders include calls for arming and equipping all men eligible to serve in the militia, monthly regimental parades, elections of field officers, granting leave of absences, the impressment of Atlanta's City Hall as a hospital, details of civilians for duty, and service exemptions for newspaper employees, including Samuel P. Richards of The Soldiers Friend, and editors and publishers of The Baptist Banner. The series include muster rolls for the 1st, 4th, and 7th Georgia Regiments in 1861-1862, and for the 144th New York Volunteers. Among the records issued by state governments are pardons to ex-Confederate soldiers and officials, an invoice for "impressment of negroes" in Alabama to make salt, and a letter from General Robert E. Lee dismissing soldiers of the Army of Northern Virginia after the surrender at Appomattox.

Title: William Terry letter, 1845 February 11.

The collection consists of a letter, dated February 11, 1845, from William Terry to Lemuel Pratt Grant, resident engineer of the Georgia Railroad at Decatur, DeKalb County, Georgia. Terry, lumber contractor for the railroad, asks for an extension of time to complete his contract for lumber for the depot at Decatur and inquires as to whether other lumber is needed "either at Decatur of at the terminus [Atlanta]." Terry in his letter mentions Mr. Thompson, Mr. Bird, and Messrs. Williard and Williams.

Images of office buildings and commercial facilities include the Citizens and Southern Bank building, the Federal Reserve Bank building, First National Bank, Georgian Terrace Hotel, Henry Grady Hotel, J.P. Allen & Company building, Lenox Mall, Life of Georgia building, the Atlanta Merchandise Mart, Parliament House Motel, Peachtree-Baker building, Peachtree Towers, Piedmont Hotel, Union Station Passenger Depot, the Varsity restaurant, and White Columns housing WSB radio and television stations. Included among the photographs of churches and synagogues in the collection are All Saints Episcopal, Big Bethel African Methodist Episcopal, Capitol View Presbyterian, Central Presbyterian, Christ the King, Druid Hills Methodist, East Point Christian, First Presbyterian, Inman Park Baptist, Jewish Temple, and Ponce de Leon Baptist. Photographs of government, civic, and municipal facilities include Atlanta City Hall, Atlanta Civic Center, Atlanta Stadium, Atlanta Water Works, the Cyclorama building, Fulton County Courthouse, Governor's Mansion, Municipal Auditorium, the Georgia State Capitol, and the United States Penitentiary. The collection includes images of residences and former residences of Atlantans such as A. G. Rhodes, Bartow Blount, Joseph Boland, Hunter Cooper, James Dickey, Willis Jones, Lemuel P. Grant, Henry Heinz, Hugh McKee, William Perrin Nicolson, Hugh Nunnally, Edwin Peters, Joseph Rhodes, and George Washington Collier in Buckhead, Midtown, and North Druid Hills neighborhoods.
