Included is a tribute to Edward Everett Hale by Julia Caroline Ripley Dorr, The lover by Theodosia Pickering Garrison, an untitled verse by Sarah Jane Clarke Lippincott and several quotations. Of interest is a letter from Ella Wheeler Wilcox which mentions Jack London, and describes her efforts to contact her deceased husband through mediums. The collection consists chiefly of American sheet music published in the United States between the years 1830-1930. While a significant minority of the music in the collection is instrumental music, the vast majority is for voice and piano. Notable in this collection are imprints from California dating from before 1850, first editions by Irving Berlin and others, and many European imprints among the instrumental pieces.

Poe, Edgar Allan, 1809-1849. Edgar Allan Poe collection, 1827-1908.

Title: Edgar Allan Poe collection, 1827-1908.

An original manuscript of "Annabel Lee," as well as a facsimile manuscript of "Epimanes," an unpublished tale, by Edgar Allan Poe. Included in the collection is an autograph album belonging to Octavia Walton Le Vert. On May 1, 1827 Poe inscribed "When wit and wine and friends have met..." in the album. In addition to the Poe inscription the album contains inscriptions by Henry Clay and by the Southern poet, Edward Coote Pinkney. Also, a daguerreotype portrait of Poe taken in Richmond shortly before his death. The Raven Mantel, on view in Room 655, Butler Library, is from the room in the Manhattan farmhouse where Poe boarded during the summers of 1843 1844 and where he wrote "The Raven". Included is correspondence of William Hemstreet, 1907-1908, then owner of the Mantel, concerning its presentation by him the the NEW YORK TIMES, Dec. 1907, when it came to Columbia. There are also three letters of 1888, when its original home where "The Raven" was written, was demolished.
