This collection contains military pay records, correspondence and other papers of Charles Carr, paymaster of the 13th Kentucky Militia during the War of 1812. The collection consists of fourteen (14) folders, many of which are oversized, with items ranging in date from 1813 to 1868. However, the bulk of the collection is from 1813. The military pay records document men enlisted in various companies of the 13th Kentucky Militia and record amounts paid to soldiers for their service in March, 1813, at Lexington, Kentucky. These records are for the following 13th Kentucky Militia companies: Captain Armstrong Kerr, Archibald Morrison, Captain Joel Henry, Captain John C. Morrison, Ambrose Arthur, Captain John Yantis, Captain Dudley Faris, and Captain Thomas Lewis. One item in this series is an account sheet, circa 1822, listing itemized expenditures from 1812 to 1813. Other items include a letter from Green Clay to Charles Carr regarding money paid to men in the militia, an affidavit by Charles Carr regarding public money found in Colonel William Dudley's trunk on the day that he was killed, and a set of instructions for paymasters, dated circa 1813. Also included in the collection is a list of payments made from the estate of Charles Carr by his executor in 1868.
