This manuscript volume consists of notes from various appellate court cases in Virginia (1783-1793). Cases concern debt fraud, slaves, paper money, a deserted ship found adrift (1793), and a chart of profits of slaves. Cases include Turner v. Turner, Finnie v. Gilbert (appealed from Williamsburg Hustings Court), Gault and Ux v. Hornsby et al., Dade v. Dade, Cocke's Exec. v. Linton, Downman v. Downman Exec., Vaughan v. Moses, Smith v. Harmonson, and James Norvel v. David Ross. Also some mention of shares in the Potomac Company (founded to open the Potomac River to navigation). Names mentioned include J. Baker, Chief Justice Paul Carrington, Thomas Hewitt, William Hunter, Jr., Richard Lee, Sarah Lee, Robert Lyle, Judge Peter Lyons, T. Mason, Judge James Mercer, Edmund Randolph, Philip R. Tendall, H. Tazewell, Andrew Wates, and the "fair Virginian" (ship).

In a re-enactment of the famous Parsons Cause trial sponsored by the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities, Haw "prepared and delivered the address which in his opinion should have been delivered by Mr. Lyons," representative for the Reverend James Maury in answer to Patrick Henry, counsel for the defendant. Reenactment and retrial scripts of the Parson's Cause trial, in which James Maury sued for receipt of his parson's salary at the higher inflated rate of tobacco prices. Parsons salaries had been readjusted for inflation by the Two-penny Act of 1758.

Title: License to practice law, 1756 February 5.

This license permitted Peter Lyons to practice law in the county or inferior courts in the colony of Virginia. It was signed on February 5, 1756 by Peyton Randolph, John Randolph, and Robert C. Nicholas. The docketing on the verso lists the counties in which Lyons qualified to practice and the dates he qualified.
