Personal, family, and professional correspondence and papers of various members of the Doub family, particularly Peter Doub and brother Michael Doub, both Methodist ministers, and Peter's son, William Clark Doub. Early material is mainly land deeds and indentures. The papers for 1820-1870 include personal and business letters, legal papers, letters concerning Joseph C. Doub's service in the Confederate Army, comments on teachers and teaching in North Carolina; papers on religious subjects, pertaining mainly to the Methodist Church, and Peter Doub's sketch, 1867, on Methodism in North Carolina from 1832-1840, stressing the church's educational achievements and describing the origins of several Methodist schools, including Trinity College (now Duke University). Also present is Michael Doub's journal, 1826-1856, recording his preaching appointments, along with Peter Doub's journal (1819-1834) and undated autobiography.

The collection articles, sermons, letters, reports, minutes, essays, diaries, and lists of Peter Doub from 1796-1869. Portions of the collection, such as the diary, are photocopies of original materials. Topics of the materials include temperance, the Methodist Episcopal Church, the conflict of the Methodist Church with the Presbyterian Church in Virginia, biblical literature, slavery, baptism, and confirmation. Minutes are from North Carolina Quarterly Conference (1844-1845) and the Methodist General Conference (1828; 1846). There are also extracts from the journals of Reverend James Meacham and a photocopy of Doub's diary.

This collection contains approximately 258 items relating to John Wesley, his family, and Methodism. Approximately half of the collection consists of artifacts relating to John Wesley. The collection is organized in three series: I., Prominent Methodists; II., Methodist Events; and III., Miscellaneous artifacts. Series I, Prominent Methodists, is organized in two groups and three subgroups. Group A., Wesley family, includes subgroups John Wesley, Charles Wesley, and Other Wesleys. Group B. is Other Methodists. The collection includes images such as cameos, paintings, engravings, and photographs. Other artifacts include commemorative plates and plaques and other ceramic items, busts and figurines, medals, and other items.
