Kept variously by John Bidwell, William F. Swasey, W.N. Loker, all in Sutter's employ, and by Sutter himself. Covers events from Sept 9, 1845 to May 25, 1848. No entries from July 11 to Dec. 9, 1846, and from latter date to May 20, 1847. A record of activities at Sutter's Fort-arrivals and departures, work done on the farm, trading operations, etc. Occasionally some political and social news recorded. Many references to early American settlers, and, after the discovery of gold, comments on increasing mining activity.
